Richard "Dick" Pollitz, 77, passed away Saturday, December 29, 2002. Mr. Pollitz was a native of Chicago, IL and a former resident of Highland, IN. Mr. Pollitz had been a Peninsula resident since 1986.
Mr. Pollitz was a 1951 graduate of the University of Wyoming. He was an active member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church where he served as an usher and sang in the church choir. He retired after 29 years of service with the Amoco Oil Company as a Civil and Construction Engineer.
His hobbies included Barbershop singing with the Commodore Chorus, and fishing.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Bernice Pollitz; one son, Robert and his wife, Sheree, of Salt Lake City, UT; four daughters, Judith DeMuth and her husband, David, of Highland, IN, Mary Smith and her husband, Richard, of Scottsburg, IN, Barbara Sylvia and her husband, Jeffrey, of Newport News, VA, and LuAnn Keltner and her husband Kurt, of Highland, IN; 17 grandchildren, Ryan, Michelle, Byron Jr., Stephanie, and Sarah Pollitz, David, Jennifer, Julie, and Dustin DeMuth, Alex and Emily Smith, Katie and Clayton Keltner, Megan, Caitlyn, Shannon, and Lauren Sylvia.
At the reception following the funeral, the Commodore Chorus had the honor of performing for the family and sang one of Dick's favorite songs, "I'll Fly Away". The Chorus invited any other barbershoppers that were present to join them, and the assembled group sang "Shenandoah", "Shine on Me", "Nearer, My God, to Thee", and then closed by singing "Irish Blessing".
